Hello {{RegistrantFirstName}},
You have been added to the CRNA’s Provisional Register, also known as the Provisional Nurse Program. While you are in the Provisional Nurse Program, you will hold the title graduate nurse practitioner (GNP) and be restricted to practice with the population that directly relates to your education stream. For essential details, please consult the Welcome Page. You can view your provisional permit on the College Connect home page, after you sign in. Your prescriber ID is {{PresciberID}}.
The Provisional Nurse Program is intended to allow nurses to practice under supervision while preparing for their relevant nursing registration exam. The specifics of the practice supervision can be found in this document. To read more about the Provisional Nurse Program, visit the CRNA page here.
Registrants are eligible to remain in the Provisional Nurse Program for up to 12 months. Your provisional permit will require renewal on {{FormatDate ProvisionalTermEnd}} and can be extended for an additional 6 months.
If you fail the NP exam twice while in the Provisional Nurse Program, or do not write and pass your exam before the 12-month expiry date, you will be removed from the Provisional Nurse Program and have your GNP permit revoked. Please note, the total time allotted to pass your nursing exam is independent of the Provisional Nurse Program, as you have 3 years from your program completion date.
When you write and pass your registration exam, you will immediately leave the provisional register and be granted a full practice permit.
Registration exams are designed to ensure that every new nurse is competent to practice as a nurse practitioner (NP) and it is a mandatory step to receiving your full practice permit. The process of writing your exam requires a multi-step authentication process between the CRNA, as the regulatory body, and the exam testing authority. Different testing authorities administer different registration exams. To learn more about registration exams, visit the CRNA page here.
When you are prepared to write your relevant stream of practice exam, please click here, and select the Request NP Exam registrant service. Depending on your stream of practice, the exam and registration process will differ.
If you are not yet prepared to write your exam, the CRNA will continue to send emails to remind you of the time you have left on the provisional register.
If you require guidance on this process, please reach out to us by email at registration@nurses.ab.ca or by phone at 1.800.252.9392.
