CRNA Application: Currency of Practice Volunteer Hours

Thank you for your email, volunteer work may be used towards meeting the currency of practice requirement if the volunteer work you have done is that of a registered nurse (RN) and aligns with the RN scope of practice. You may count the hours as nursing practice hours, if the work you have done in this role fits both of the following:

• The work falls within the nursing practice definition in Schedule 24 of the Health Professions Act
• The work meets the definition of RN practice based on Registered Nurses Profession Regulation and Scope of Practice for Registered Nurses

If you meet this criterion, we will need the following details from your employer:

• Employer’s name and contact information
• Your title or role during the RN practice
• A job description of your volunteer RN role
• The time period in which you completed the practice hours
• The total number of practice hours completed as an RN
