Hello {{RegistrantFirstName}},

Thank you for reaching out!

At this time, we do not have an online application available for authorization for RN prescribing, however I will guide you to the requirements and documents via this email. Any RN requesting authorization to prescribe must individually meet all of the requirements. Please reach out if you have questions in follow-up. Please refer to the competencies for RNs prescribing schedule 1 drugs to determine if you meet the requirements under the assumptions section.

The following documentation is required to complete an application:

  1. Successful completion of an approved education program for RN prescribing and ordering diagnostic tests.
  2. Employer reference and support document (attached).
  3. Clinical support tool(s) - please refer to the standards and competencies documents, specifically Appendix A in the requirements and standards document.

One of the main requirements for RNs authorized to prescribe is the presence of an interprofessional team to support the development of the clinical support tools and support the RN authorized to prescribe.

Upon successful completion of the above requirements, this authorization would be added to your existing permit.

If you require more assistance, please contact us at rnprescribing@nurses.ab.ca. Ensure you include your CRNA registration number with all email correspondence.

Thank you,
